Abstract

The present article shows the influence of the Royal Commentaries of Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in three novellas by the Argentine-Peruvian writer Juana Manuela Gorriti. Therefore, these short works of fiction fall into the class of writing known as Incanism. Six motifs will be examined including El Dorado, underground cities, a change of fortune for the Incas, the historical figure Diego de Maldonado, the deity Pachakamaq, and a defense of Quechua. Together these six elements work to reformulate the Criollo concept of the Peruvian nation.
