The Fox Above and the Fox Below: Variations on Pastoral and Psychoanalysis
Keywords:

This study explores the links between Arguedas’s posthumous novel, El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo, in regard to the pastoral and psychoanalysis. In this sense, I highlight the nostalgic discourse of the Andean migrant exemplified in the music of Antolín Crispín, one of the characters of the novel. Crispín’s art creates a harmonic vision of nature in opposition to the destruction and excessive exploitation on the coastal landscape of Chimbote. As a consequence, a logic of desire and transference among the characters takes place.
