Abstract

This article explores how Andean cultures have a tradition of change—or ability to adapt—and do so without losing their human and peculiar character, even in times of cultural and economic globalization. The main themes are the dialogue between individual identity and collective identity and nature, and how Arguedas’ understanding of this led him to express the “festive content of life” and the solidary and communal ties that characterize Andean peoples. This analysis also helps to understand the poetic and creative aspects of Arguedas’ essay work.
