This article looks at Arguedas’ formative process beginning with his fieldwork in Spain while writing his doctoral thesis in Anthropology. The political and cultural climate of Franquism didn’t prevent the author from collecting important information on Spanish rural communities, which he would later relate to Andean peoples, prominent in his literary works.
