The novel Mañana, las ratas (1984), by the Peruvian writer José В. Adolph, criticizes the conditions that have led to a dystopian imaginary of the city of Lima in the year of 2034. This article takes apart the pieces of this now-canonical work of Peruvian science-fiction to establish its strong ties with the economic, social, ethnic and linguistic reality of the capital city and the beginnings of the Bicentennial of the Independence, questioning the value and efficiency of the criollo state founded in 1821.
