Abstract

Based on a critical dialogue with some recent works that deal with the concepts of memory and oblivion (Moser, Sarlo, Todorov, Ricoeur), this article analyzes the ambiguities of Claudia Llosa’s film La teta asustada (The Milk of Sorrow) regarding the memory of political events during the Peruvian civil war (1980-1992) that appears as backstage of the film. The article also critically reads the means of trauma liberation of the film’s protagonist, considering her individual case in its social and collective implications.
