Identidad y lengua en el proceso creativo de Eduardo Espina, poeta uruguayo-tejano

Abstract

Uruguayan-Texan poet Eduardo Espina sees himself as part of a “revolution with language” (Alanís 4). He views himself immersed as both a citizen and a poet in an increasingly bilingual United States of America. Through the analysis of selected meta-poems and autopoetics, I will demonstrate how the poet’s bi- cultural and bilingual experience in the United States has brought him to a process of reflection and self-knowledge that influences the use of language in his poetry. This is not reflected in the use of Spanglish, but rather in the decentering of Spanish within his poetic subjectivity.
