This article proposes a theoretical model to map the writings of the self from a critical review of the concept of self-fiction. The proposal is based on a reading of Mario Levrero’s narrative work—and in particular two texts: “Diario de un canalla” (1993) and La novela luminosa (2005)—and includes the analysis of two novels by César Aira and Antonio Orejudo—Cómo me hice monja (1993) and Los cinco y yo (2017)—as well as an examination of the critical discussion developed in recent decades around the concepts of self-fiction and self-writing.
