In the aftermath of the 1929 capitalist crisis, Latin America experienced peasant rebellions and military dictatorships. This article explores the crisis of agrarian societies from two books published in 1935: La tempestad, by Flavio Herrera, and Agua, by José María Arguedas. I examine the spatiality of the agrarian cosmos and how each author uses inversed, prosopopoeia images, of a world in war. Also, I study the fundamental differences in the conceptualization of the Indian in plantations. Finally, I analyze the centrality of the racial wound in societies based on the agrarian violence of plantations.
