Don Goyo y el sumak kawsay

Abstract

This article explores the Andean knowledge of the novel Don Goyo (1933) by Ecuadorian author Demetrio Aguilera Malta in relation to the principle of sumak kamay or "good living," which contemporary indigenous groups claim as an alternative to the Western criteria of "progress" and "better living."
