Yuliana Oriz Ruano y su escritura de “Fight the Power”
Keywords:
violence, resistance, (re)existence, afrodescendant womenAbstract
My reading of the writing and thought of Yuliana Ortiz Ruano (1992, Esmeraldas- Ecuador) is based on her consciousness of Blackness rooted in an ongoing history of resistance and (re)existence in Ecuador and throughout the Afro diaspora in the Americas. Among the themes I analyze are a systemic patriarchy of exploitation and the deterritorialized and mutilated body of Afrodescendant women expressed unequivocally through, and with, Ortiz Ruano’s voice that breaks the silences of oppression and repression, a voice she employs ethically and esthetically as her weapon of resistance and (re)existence in these times of violence.
