María Rosa Lida was a figure of exceptional relevance to Philology in Spanish. Usually, a hyperbolic condition is attributed to her that seems sufficient presentation of her work, a circumstance that eludes the critical judgment on her production. This article aims to complete a biobibliographic journey, in her 110th anniversary, that reveals the impact of Argentine politics on her development, stops at the importance of Jewish affiliation in the choice of her subjects, and tops off with the effects of the feminine condition for her career. In addition to considering Lida's great works and the consequences they had on philological studies, I evaluate here her use of erudition to refute the great masters and I lament the unfinished development of a trend that could lead to a renewal of philology, with incidence on the most current literary criticism.
