Aulus Gellius’ Attic Nights achieved a special impact in Argentina. Just as Bioy Casares and Julio Cortázar, Borges was a good reader of the Attic Nights. Thus, our aim is to establish the way Borges read Gellius’ book through (a) their intermediates, (b) the volume of the Attic nights owned by Borges, (c) the quotations of Gellius made by Borges, (d) the common clichés, (e) the Gellius’ sentences and, finally, (f) the literary development Borges took out from the Gellius’ miscellany to create his own essays.
