This article offers a description and brief analysis of four operas —staged in theaters in recent years— with a Peruvian theme: Les Indes galantes (Rameau and Fuzelier, Paris, 1735), Alzira (Verdi and Cammarano, Naples, 1845), La Périchole (Offenbach, Halévy and Meilhac, Paris, 1868), and Bel Canto (López and Cruz, Chicago, 2015). The first two are set in the initial period of the European invasion of the Andes; the third in the colonial period; and the last one is contemporary.
