During the sixteenth century, the city of Cordoba became the most populous and prosperous one in the Andalusian region, except for the Sevillian metropolis. The reason of the Cordoban wealth was its privileged geographical location between a fertile countryside that lived a moment of great agricultural expansion, and the mountains that held traditional farming and a blooming craft wool textile industry. The arrival in 1591 of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega happened at a time of cultural revitalization for the city, coinciding with the moment of artistic impetus of its Renaissance architecture. In this article, I study the main buildings erected in times of Inca Garcilaso, their origin and projection in the Cordoban architecture of the next century.
