Abstract

This article examines the general characteristics of El cóndor pasa. . . (The Condor Passes By...) in relation to its cultural context in Peru's 1910s and the global musical context in which both the famous melody named "El condor pasa" and the musical drama itself are inserted. The article refutes some of the most frequent commonplaces about the work by Julio Baudouin and Daniel Alomía Robles.
