Abstract

This article focuses on one of the most influential and fruitful relationships in modern Peruvian literature: the friendship between Emilio Adolfo Westphalen and José María Arguedas. The analysis of Arguedas’ contributions to the magazines Las Moradas and Amaru, edited by Westphalen; of Westphalen’s poems in “El niño y el río” (“The Child and the River”); and of the correspondence between them in 1939-1969, will help to illuminate the nature of their relationship and its effects in the Peruvian literary world.
