Abstract

This article analyzes and compares the notion of buen gobierno (“Good government”) in Descripción de la ciudad y provincia de Tlaxcala by Diego Muñoz Camargo and El primer nueva corónica y buen gobierno by Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala. It aims to show not only the main similarities and differences between these viceregal chronicles, but it also studies the discursive strategies that both authors used in order to persuade their readers that their idea of “good government” was the most convenient to the interests of the Spanish Crown.
