La redefinición del sujeto latinoamericano a través de la desorientación del otro en la obra de Jorge Luis Borges

This essay analyzes the images of the Oriental Other in the prose and poetry of Jorge Luis Borges as an avenue to redefine Latin American identity. It is focused on the analysis of how the historical dialog between the East and the West is used to redraw the boundaries of the concept of Otherness to reflect deep connections between Orientalism and Americanism. The examination of Borges’s manipulations of the Orientalized images of the Jew, the Arab and the gaucho allows to dialog with the Orientalist theories, casting light on how the Borges’s texts intensify the process of differentiation of Latin America from the old hegemony through the change in the discourse of power.
