This article explores the intermedial relationship between cinema and poetry in Oliverio Girondo’s first two books, Veinte poemas para ser leídos en el tranvía (1922) and Calcomanías (1925). It is worth mentioning that this nexus is produced between literature and the silent movies of the time. A theme will be explored that considers cinema in relation to the motif of travel in the context of mass tourism. This essay will demonstrate that Girondo’s poems, with attention to their filmic montage design, have been influenced by the cinematic travelogue format and the subgenre known as city symphony film. The analysis will reveal that Girondo’s cinematic images cannot be separated from their filmic counterpart.
