La ciudad y los autos de fe en tres ejemplos de la Lima colonial
Keywords:

A series of testimonies, such as the Relaciones de autos de fe and other documents that narrate these celebrations and “triumphs of the Holy Office”, intend to present ephemeral ceremonies as transcendent and perpetual using the printed word and following the image of the Metropolis in colonial society. These texts reported the procession and its announcement, its routes, the main places in the city, the hierarchical arrangement of the procession, the order in which the personalities, the prisoners and the people were placed, often written with explicit conventions. Based on three autos de fe from Lima, between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, I pinpoint perspectives of the urbs and the civitas, the urban space and the human theatre of the colonial city with the social implications that history was determining.
