Abstract

Peruvian poetry of the mid-twentieth century offers many examples in which stone operates as a fundamental motif from different complementary visions. In particular, I will analyze those compositions that, in this respect, are considered paradigmatic of the poets Alejandro Romualdo, Washington Delgado and Julio Garrido. These three names have traditionally been ascribed to a social type of poetry. However, approaching their works from the point of view of stone is particularly enriching, since the complex semantic and historical dimension of the symbol allows us to broaden the vision of their poetry towards existential considerations. In conclusion, I propose three ways from which the stone symbol can be reread in contemporary terms in the aforementioned authors: the material way, the way of Inca recovery and the metaphysical way.
