The Pursuer (1959), by Julio Cortázar, represents a breaking off point in the writing of this author with respect to his earlier works. In this essay, we will bring to light the systematic representation of the creator, which on one hand proposes an artistic and vanguard ideology, based on exploration and formal experimentation; while on the other hand alludes to a new type of subjectivity, based rather in the liberation of social repressions and a different way of being in the world. These two ideas would become, in the years that followed, the ideas Cortázar articulated most in his public discourses, as he intervened in debates about the function of the intellectual in Latin America and the role of literature in revolution.
