Narración y pensamiento criollo en El carnero de Juan Rodríguez Freyle

Abstract

This paper analyzes the narrative construction in El carnero [1638] by Juan Rodríguez Freyle, seeing it as part of the evidence of the development of a differentiated Creole thought. By means of the analysis of the narrative strategies used to build the factuality and the fiction in the story, it follows that the work is the expression of the comprehension of the world by the creoles in the middle of the changes that the Spanish empire experienced during the first half of the seventeenth century.
