Peruvian scholar Luis E. Valcárcel and Robert Lehmann-Nitsche, anthropologist of the Science Museum of La Plata, exchanged five letters between 1920 and 1921. The correspondence shows, with annotations and explanations, that the exchanges between intellectual groups in both regions precede, in some years, the Peruvian Mission of Inca Art that Valcárcel led, between 1923 and 1924, to promote the Inca culture in La Paz, Montevideo, and Buenos Aires. The corresponence also shows that it is a sign of the incipient formation of a network of Americanists interested in the archaeological findings of the early century in the Cuzco area.
