Since the beginning of the 20th century, and especially after the First World War and the emergence of the avant-gardes, there is a general crisis of the idea of belief. What is believing or how do you believe in a disenchanted world? In its religious inflection, the ways of believing as practices problematize the submission to a fixed and normative creed. The article explores different irruptions of the divine in the artistic and literary field of late Brazilian modernism in connection with the design of identities, bodies, communities and peoples resistant to the individualism and capitalist advanced in full expansion.
