Materialidad y transmaterialidad en la estética materialista de José Carlos Mariátegui

Abstract

I propose to illustrate what I have characterized as “materialist aesthetics”, a Mariateguian category opposed to the common “aesthetic materialism” of Marxists contemporary to the 7 Essays. Indeed, his original contribution would consist in underlining the contradiction in which some criticism of Marxist art would incur, an all façade materialist criticism that is finally dualist and a-dialectic regarding the real consistency of a phenomenon that is both material and transmaterial, physical support and at the same time symbolic.
