In this article, I address the trial against Pedro de Oña’s epic poem Arauco domado (Lima, 1596). From the analysis of the a posteriori censorship of the poem, carried out by Pedro Muñiz, Dean of the Cathedral of Lima, I reflect on the limitations and demands that weighed on poetic writing in the Viceroyalty of Peru by the end of the 16th century.
