Prolegómenos al problema de la nación en la poesía de Mariano Melgar

This article not only reflects on the libertarian concern of Mariano Melgar, but also on his desire for national integration to achieve the independence project. Apart from the literary fact of the yaraví, sign and symbol of a heterogeneous Peruvian culture, which canceled the colonial imitation and initiated the innovative course of national poetry, I intend to draw attention to the emergence of a nationalist sentiment, capable of summoning Indians, criollos and mesti- zos—at the beginning of the 19th century—and integrate them into a future project of a real Peruvian nation.
