Abstract

In this essay I will examine the project for a nation that the Guayaquil writer and politician José Joaquín de Olmedo proposes in his famous poem “The Victory of Junín. Song to Bolívar” in contrast with the ideas of the Liberator himself about the Inca past and the future of the new South American republics he founded. There is a serious discrepancy between them not only in terms of the characterization of the heroes of the Junín and Ayacucho battles, but also two Creole ways of conceiving the brand new countries according to their relationship with the indigenous world. This division of criteria has marked a good part of the history of Peru to this day.
