Abstract

This article outlines some of the limitations that condition the international circulation of Latin American literary theory. To that aim, it analyzes a case: Ana María Barrenechea’s reformulation of Tzvetan Todorov’s fantasy model. First, it pinpoints the elements Barrenechea corrects and develops, and then traces the way in which these new concepts were received. On the basis of the collected data, it underlines some of the factors obstructing the international circulation of Latin American literary theory, drawing from an updated reading of Bourdieu’s field theory.
