Peruvian writer Julio Ramón Ribeyro (1929-1994) is often considered as having passively endured the timid reception of his work in Peru and Latin America, a context where, as we know, he was left out of the boom celebration. However, this image of a shy, taciturn man, uninclined to self-promotion, contrasts with the results of a more detailed analysis of his published correspondence with his brother Juan Antonio Ribeyro. In this vein, it is possible to reread this exchange as a sui generis reaction to the obstacles of his editorial fate, which later also contributed to his reemergence as a classic (at least in Peru).
