Twilight Verses: A Biography of Finding Myself by Benedetti
Keywords:
Benedetti, poetry, Biografia para encontrarme, death, love as deceit, old ageAbstract
I argue that in Biografía para encontrarme, his last book of poetry, Benedetti explores the following universal themes: the impossibility of knowing oneself in this lifetime; life as a parenthesis from nothingness and therefore as deceit; the weight of the past in old age; the need to deceive oneself (and therefore, to live and believe); and the singular importance of love in the face of negations, doubts, and the inexorable reality of death.
