Abstract

An analysis of the Diarios de campaña (Campaign Diaries), the last work of José Martí, focusing on the themes of nature and culture in relation both to the literary intentions of the text and the power of language. The authors demonstrate the poetic qualities of the text, and point out the communion of the lyrical subject with poetic images and forms. Their critical insights are founded primarily on Martí's collected works and on the works of the eminent readers of his oeuvre.
