For a concept of Afro-Brazilian literature

Abstract

The present article discusses the concepts of black literature and Afro-Brazilian literature
from the existing debates in Brazilian history and literary criticism, taking as a reference
the production of Afro-descendent authors from the 19th and 20th centuries. Also,
it tries to estabilish a group of elements that, once reunited, may present references
of distinction that provide the especificity of the Afro-Brazilian literature in contrast
with Brazilian mainstream literature.
