Author Guidelines

To submit articles, notes, bibliographies, debates and reviews for consideration by the journal, text in Spanish or Portuguese must be written according to the MLA Style Manual. However, because punctuation standards in English differ from those in Spanish and Portuguese, we prefer to adapt the Modern Language Association style to the languages ​​of the journal. For example, footnotes and closing quotation marks must precede, and not follow, commas, semicolons and periods. Thus,

The commemoration of the bicentennials of the independence and the tortuous constitution of nation-states in Latin America takes place in 2010 amid great celebrations that evoke those that took place a hundred years ago, at the time of the centenaries, in countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Mexico1.

Other features of the MLA format are maintained, especially with regard to citations or references to authors or works within the main text. These references should be in parentheses (indicating the author's last name, the title of the work, and the page number) and not in a footnote. For example,
However, this recognition should not limit such creativity to writing understood as a mere artifice disconnected from a larger proposal "conceived from ancestral difference and its principles, but intended for the whole of society (Walsh, "The interculturalization of the new Ecuadorian constitution" 5).

As for the entries in the final bibliography that must accompany each article, follow this model:

For books by individual authors:

Likewise, the names of the cities in which a publication appears are preserved in their original language.

Texts should not exceed 25 double-spaced pages, including bibliography and footnotes. Critical or theoretical citations from other languages ​​​​will be appreciated if they appear in translation into Spanish or Portuguese, but in no case will they be translations of translations. It is also appreciated that footnotes do not exceed, if possible, six lines.

Research articles (not general notes or reviews) should be preceded by a summary (or "abstract") of no more than eight lines, which allows the main argument and general methodology of the work to be identified. The abstract should be accompanied by its English version for wider dissemination purposes, and a list of key words in both languages.

Reviews should ideally not exceed 1200 words (approximately three pages double-spaced at 12 point). Essay-reviews involving more than one book are accepted, with a length of no more than twelve double-spaced pages.

The Revista de Crítica Literaria Latinoamericana is a peer-reviewed journal, which means that the editorial staff will make two copies of each manuscript received and will circulate them anonymously among technical readers in each specialty, who will evaluate their merits for possible publication. Signed contributions do not necessarily represent the opinion of the Journal.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
